About the CVRI
Welcome to the Cardiovascular Research Institute
It is my pleasure to welcome you on your virtual visit to the Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI), Wayne State University School of Medicine. The CVRI was chartered in August 2009 with the mission of establishing a nationally and internationally recognized center of excellence for the study of cardiovascular pathophysiology and disease. The hallmarks of the CVRI are collaboration and innovation: the Institute is designed to serve as a nexus for cardiovascular investigators from a broad range of disciplines and departments within the School of Medicine and in the greater university community. Our strategy is to structure the CVRI as an integrated and interactive network of multi-disciplinary research ‘teams’, each composed of member-investigators with complementary interests and expertise encompassing the continuum from basic molecular and cellular biology to whole organ (patho)physiology to clinical application. Moreover, the CVRI is dedicated to the development of a comprehensive, translational and multi-disciplinary training environment for graduate students, MD-PhD students and post-doctoral fellows designed to prepare young investigators to become future leaders in the field of cardiovascular medicine. I encourage you to explore our website and discover the unique and innovative research and educational environment fostered by the Cardiovascular Research Institute.
